چکیده

PC-Life, a dialect of the LIFE language designed by A t-Kaci, extends the original design by some features, the most important of which are distributed disjunctions. LIFE integrates the functional and the logic-oriented programming styles, and feature types supporting inheritance. This language is well suited for knowledge representation , in particular for applications in computational linguistics.

Learning Disjunctions of Features

Littlestone's Winnow algorithm for learning disjunctions of Boolean attributes where most attributes are irrelevant is one of the most fundamental results in learning theory. Because of the importance of Winnow, it is natural to try extending Winnow to learn disjunctions of features (i.e., concepts). In doing so, we may generalize some earlier applications of Winnow. In this paper, we extend Wi...

Non-Monotonic Reasoning Based on Minimal Models and its Efficient Implementation

A common approach to non{monotonic reasoning is to choose a set S of models (e.g. minimal, perfect or stable models) for a logic program P. Then, the meaning of P is deened as the set of all formulas which are implied logically by all models in S. For a disjunctive logic program P, we consider the set S = MMP of minimal models and get the non{montonic consequences NMP of ground disjunctions ove...

Phylogeography and the origins of range disjunctions in a north temperate fish, the pygmy whitefish (Prosopium coulterii), inferred from mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequence analysis

Intraspecific range disjunctions occur when a taxon has geographic occurrences that are separated by large geographic distances, and they are one of the oldest observations in biogeography (Lomolino et al., 2006). Range disjunctions have provoked much thought in biogeography because they suggest that separate geographic areas were once connected, that longdistance dispersal has occurred between...

Disjunctions and Inheritance in the Context Feature Structure System

Substantial efforts have been made in order to cope with disjunctions in constraint based grammar formalisms (e.g. [Kasper, 1987; Maxwell and Kaplan, 1991; DSrre and Eisele, 1990].). This paper describes the roles of disjunctions and inheritance in the use of feature structures and their formal semantics. With the notion of contexts we abstract from the graph structure of feature structures and...

Biogeographic analysis of the woody plants of the Southern Appalachians: Implications for the origins of a regional flora.

PREMISE OF THE STUDY We investigated the origins of 252 Southern Appalachian woody species representing 158 clades to analyze larger patterns of biogeographic connectivity around the northern hemisphere. We tested biogeographic hypotheses regarding the timing of species disjunctions to eastern Asia and among areas of North America. METHODS We delimited species into biogeographically informati...
